Test Sample Size Requirements

Mark the direction of rolling on samples that require tensile, bend or surface testing.

Minimum sample size for complete chemical, mechanical and physical testing to ASTM A240 or A666 is 3" x 8".  8" dimension of the sample must correspond to the requested test direction - Longitudinal (L) or Transverse (T).

Chemical test only - 1.5 x 1.5" minimum.Surface roughness test only - 1.5 x 1.5" minimum.

Tensile test only - 2" x 8" minimum.  8" dimension of the sample must correspond to the requested test direction - Longitudinal (L) or Transverse (T).

Bend test only - 2" x 8" minimum. 8" dimension of the sample must correspond to the requested test direction - Longitudinal (L) or Transverse (T).

Refer samples under the minimum specified above to STS for ability to perform requested test.

Sample must be flat and free from deep gauges and or scratches.

Mark sample with sample ID that appears on sample Submission Form.
